Hellenic Carriers Limited (Hellenic Carriers) is a related third party to Mantinia Shipping Company S.A. (Mantinia), a Company founded in 1971 by the late Konstantinos Diamantis, whose presence in shipping began in the early 1950's.
Konstantinos Diamantis was one of the first shipowners in Greece to establish close working relationships with national and international oil companies, operating a fleet of small and handy-size tankers. He was also involved for a number of years in the deep-sea fishing industry, through ownership of sophisticated fish factory vessels trading in the Atlantic.
The founder of Mantinia passed away in 1988 and entrusted his shipping enterprise to his family successors. Under their stewardship, the Company maintained its presence in the tanker sector and concurrently expanded the scope of its operations in 2000 with the first acquisition of dry cargo tonnage.
The decision to enter into the dry cargo sector proved to be very well timed and the acquisition of the first Panamax bulk carrier was followed by further additions of similar tonnage. This diversification has helped the Companies expand their presence to new markets and profit from upswings in both the tanker and the dry bulk sectors.
Over the last years, Mantinia and Hellenic Carriers have undergone a gradual process of review and renewal to bring them in line with latest industry practices, building on the goodwill and the long standing relationships enjoyed by the Companies. With a young, yet experienced management team, Hellenic Carriers is primed for the next stage of its planned development, well positioned to meet the demands of today's shipping industry but also to face the challenges of the future.
